Deedy.com Blog

Look up Deedy in Websters Dictionary and you will see the following definition - \Deed"y\, a. Industrious; active. [R.] --Cowper. But to me Deedy is simply my last name and not a very common one at that. My Father always said "find yourself in a strange city? Open a phone book, find a Deedy and give them a call - chances are they are a relative." So, for all the Deedy's out there hello and welcome.

Welcome to Deedy.com's Blog

It is finally time to whip my website into shape. This blog is just one of the new features I am adding to Deedy.com and hopefully will be well received.

I will try to post items of interest to Deedy's everywhere as well as some information and news about my hometown of Winthrop, MA. If you are not familiar with Winthrop, it is a small town (1.2 sq. Miles with population of 18,303 - 2000 census) which boarders Boston in the state of Massachusetts. The town is surrounded by Boston Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean as can be seen on this map. I grew up in Winthrop and last year purchased my first home in this town.

The house is a bit of a "fixer-upper" and I anticipate that stories about the home will take up a lot of space here.

My name is Jenna Costa Deedy and I am 15 years old from Nashua, New Hampshire. I was an honor student at Pennichuck Middle School in Nashua NH, and this I am currently attending 9th grade at Nashua High North where I will be graduating in 2010.

Earlier in June, I was hospitlized in Lee Memorial Hospital in Ft. Myers, Florida with Crohn's disease complications(I was dignosed at age 12 at Mass General in Boston where I stayed for almost a year). Currently, I am in remission now and everything has been going well ever since.

Recentley this past summer, I have just finished Adventure camp at Busch Gardens Tampa(Animal Adventures), and Sea World Orlando(Career Camp) where I got to work with gorillas, chimps, rhinos, giraffes, goats, bongos, birds, seals, sea lions, penguins, and dolphins(I also got to swim at Shamu stadium) and got to know about how to get a career involving animals and animal training.

Last summer, I did feeding sessions with giraffes, and elands at Busch Gardens Tampa, swam with beluga whales in their exhibit at Sea World Florida and two dolphin trainning sessions at Discovery Cove.

When I was five years old, Sea World invited me and my family down to go behind the scenes with the false killer whales and the dolphins where my goal of wanting to be an animal trainer at Sea World in the future began. But, I want to be a killer whale trainer at sea world because I would love to spend the day swimming with a killer whale, interacting with them and even perfoming in a show with them.

Late this May, I was invited down to the New England Aqaurium by my pen pal Stacy Hoth, a marine mammal trainer there to go behind the scenes and do training sessions with the harbor seals and the northern fur seals where I had a nice time working and learning about these fun-loving animals and how they care for them everyday and following this July, I did a 2-hour dolphin swim at Miami Seaquarium where I had a nice hands-on exprience with Echo, the 19-year son on the orginal Flipper dolphin Mitzi.

I have been known to write to animal trainers from many zoological facilities in North America asking them about what it is like being an animal trainer and what I can do to get to that ranking when it comes to animal training. Often times, I have been intived down by these facilities for hands-on animal training sessions.

If I had one wish in a single lifetime, it would be to come down to Sea World San Diego and go behind the scenes with the trainers of Sea World San Diego and their whales someday and exprience what it is like being a whale trainer for the day such as interacting with them, spending time with them, and even perfoming with them in Believe because to me not only would it be a once in a lifetime hands on exprience but, it would be something I could remember and share with for the rest of my life even when I become a killer whale trainer at a sea world like Orlando, or San Diego or maybe in San Antonio. It would be my only wish to come down to San Diego to be there to have this expreince that I may have to wait like 12 years or longer.

I made a get well card for SeaWorld trainer Ken Peters and I had everyone in my Spanish II third block class sign the card, with their thoughts and prayers for him. I had the school sent it to him this afternoon just before my fourth block class started.:-) Later, I wrote to a San Diego news paper and I told them about it and why I wanted people to understand that he has been out of SeaWorld since his incident with Kasatka. In fact, this is only the third letter that I had ever sent to him. I first one was a Christmas card that I sent him in December and the second one was I was asking him how he was doing and I told what was new with my life including an essay on why I wanted to be a killer whale trainer and so on.
